What does the Feast of Trumpets picture?
We have always thought that it pictured the return of Christ…..but does it?
In these last days, God has restored the truth of the Holy Days to His church.

Let’s notice the scriptures on this subject.

THE FEAST OF TRUMPETS IS ON THE NEW MOON AS THE NEW MOON COMES TO US.

Just as the Sabbath is kept as the sunsets on Friday night where we live, so Trumpets is observed on the day of the new moon as it comes to where we live.

The Feast of Trumpets should be celebrated with the sound of trumpets before services.  It would also be appropriate to have special music which would include, harp, trumpet, drums and timbrel.

Psa 81:1  To the Chief Musician. On An Instrument of Gath. A Psalm of Asaph. Sing aloud to God our strength; Make a joyful shout to the God of Jacob.

Psa 81:2  Raise a song and strike the timbrel, The pleasant harp with the lute.

Psa 81:3  Blow the ram's horn in the new moon, in the time appointed, on our solemn feast day.

Lev 23:23  Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

Lev 23:24  "Speak to the children of Israel, saying: 'In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall have a sabbath-rest, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, a holy convocation.

Lev 23:25  You shall do no customary work on it; and you shall offer an offering made by fire to the LORD.' "

The above scripture shows a number of things about the Feast of Trumpets.
It is in the seventh month.
It is the first of the month.
Because it is the first of the month, it is then on the new moon.

Psalm 81 v 3 above shows that the feast is in the new moon.

Also notice that the Feast of Trumpets is a memorial.

God has made it easy for us to keep His holy days at the correct time.  We do not have to be highly educated or go through hours of needless calculation on a calendar, all we need to know is, the phases of the moon as they come to us, and the sun setting times to show us the start and finish of each day.

We have a graph of the new moon times by the Melbourne Planetarium included in the article Holy Days 20?? It has the time of moon rise in Australian Standard Time, you only need to adjust 1 hour or so for daylight saving when that occurs.

Now here is the key to understanding what this feast pictures……
it is a memorial of blowing of trumpets.

Note the scripture:

Lev 23:24  "Speak to the children of Israel, saying: 'In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall have a sabbath-rest, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, a holy convocation.

What is a memorial?….The World Book Dictionary says…..something that is a reminder of some event.   That means that what ever the Feast of Trumpets pictures has happened in the past, and it is so important to God that He wants us to remember it every year by celebrating a Feast. The Hebrew word in Strong's Concordance is H2146 a memento (or memorable thing, day or writing): - memorial, record.

God wants us to remember an event which was accompanied by the blowing of trumpets.

Notice Psalm 81 which is to be sung on the Feast of Trumpets, it gives us clues as to what the day pictures.  Notice it was a time of blowing trumpets, {rams horn} the time setting is when the Israelites came out of Egypt, the verses show very clearly they are the Ten Commandments.

Psa 81:2  Raise a song and strike the timbrel, The pleasant harp with the lute.

Psa 81:3  Blow the trumpet at the time of the New Moon, At the appointed time, on our solemn feast day.

Psa 81:4  For this is a statute for Israel, A law of the God of Jacob.

Psa 81:5  This He established in Joseph as a testimony, When He went throughout the land of Egypt, Where I heard a language I did not understand.

Notice it is the Ten Commandments.

Psa 81:9  There shall be no foreign god among you; Nor shall you worship any foreign god.

Psa 81:10  I am the LORD your God, Who brought you out of the land of Egypt; Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.

Notice the following great event in Israel’s history.  The receiving of the Ten Commandments and the making of a covenant between God the Father and Israel
God said if Israel obeyed Him they would be a holy nation.

Exo 19:5  Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine.

Exo 19:6  And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.' These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel."

The people said they would obey God.

Exo 19:8  Then all the people answered together and said, "All that the LORD has spoken we will do." So Moses brought back the words of the people to the LORD.

As we have already learned in previous articles, God the Father appeared to man in various ways: in a cloud, a fire, a whirlwind, in a vision, in a dream, or is invisible. In this case He appeared in a cloud….notice why He did this, so the people would believe Moses.

Exo 19:9  And the LORD said to Moses, "Behold, I come to you in the thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with you, and believe you forever." So Moses told the words of the people to the LORD.

Then the Israelites were instructed to prepare themselves and be ready to hear God the Father speak to them and to see the cloud and to receive the words of the covenant. They were not to come up to the mount until they heard a long blast from the trumpet.

Exo 19:10  Then the LORD said to Moses, "Go to the people and consecrate them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their clothes.

Exo 19:11  And let them be ready for the third day. For on the third day the LORD will come down upon Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people.

Exo 19:12  You shall set bounds for the people all around, saying, 'Take heed to yourselves that you do not go up to the mountain or touch its base. Whoever touches the mountain shall surely be put to death.

Exo 19:13  Not a hand shall touch him, but he shall surely be stoned or shot with an arrow; whether man or beast, he shall not live.' When the trumpet sounds long, they shall come near the mountain."

Then the third day arrived and the people trembled at the sound of the exceedingly loud trumpet, as well as thunders and lightning.

Exo 19:16  Then it came to pass on the third day, in the morning, that there were thundering and lightning, and a thick cloud on the mountain; and the sound of the trumpet was very loud, so that all the people who were in the camp trembled.

Then the people came to meet God the Father.
The Israelites were frightened, the trumpet blew louder and louder, the mountain quaked greatly the whole mountain was full of smoke as God descended in a fire.

Exo 19:17  And Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet with God, and they stood at the foot of the mountain.

Exo 19:18  Now Mount Sinai was completely in smoke, because the LORD descended upon it in fire. Its smoke ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain quaked greatly.

Exo 19:19  And when the blast of the trumpet sounded long and became louder and louder, Moses spoke, and God answered him by voice.

Exo 19:20  Then the LORD came down upon Mount Sinai, on the top of the mountain. And the LORD called Moses to the top of the mountain, and Moses went up.

Then the Father told Moses to ensure the people did not break the boundary set for them, lest they perish, and Moses was to return to the mountain with Aaron.

AND NOW THE COVENANT IS MADE

Moses returned to the mountain and God the Father gave the Ten Commandments.

Exo 20:1  And God spoke all these words, saying:

Exo 20:2  "I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

Exo 20:3  "You shall have no other gods before Me.

Exo 20:4  "You shall not make for yourself a carved image any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth;

Exo 20:5  you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me,

Exo 20:6  but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.

Exo 20:7  "You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.

Exo 20:8  "Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.

Exo 20:9  Six days you shall labor and do all your work,

Exo 20:10  but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates.

Exo 20:11  For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.

Exo 20:12  "Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the LORD your God is giving you.

Exo 20:13  "You shall not murder.

Exo 20:14  "You shall not commit adultery.

Exo 20:15  "You shall not steal.

Exo 20:16  "You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

Exo 20:17  "You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor's."

When the Israelites saw the lightning flashes and heard the thunder and the sound of the trumpet they trembled.

Exo 20:18  Now all the people witnessed the thundering, the lightning flashes, the sound of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking; and when the people saw it, they trembled and stood afar off.

The Israelites did not want God to speak to them, they were afraid, they wanted Moses to speak to them.  Look at the amazing reasons why God the Father came down to the mountain to speak to them.
To test the Israelites, and so that they would fear God and not sin.

Look just how much mercy God the Father has.  He did not want the Israelites to sin, so He demonstrated some of His power and authority to them, to instil in them a healthy respect and fear of Him.

Exo 20:19  Then they said to Moses, "You speak with us, and we will hear; but let not God speak with us, lest we die."

Exo 20:20  And Moses said to the people, "Do not fear; for God has come to test you, and that His fear may be before you, so that you may not sin."

Moses approached the cloud where the Father was and He gave Moses the judgments.

Exo 21:1  "Now these are the judgments which you shall set before them:

Christ gave the oracles when He spoke, and ate with Moses, Aaron and the elders.

Act 7:38  "This is he who was in the congregation in the wilderness with the Angel who spoke to him on Mount Sinai, and with our fathers, the one who received the living oracles to give to us,

The Father said He would send an angel {Christ} to go before them.

Remember an angel is translated a messenger.

If the Israelites obeyed Christ and the Father then the following would happen.

Exo 23:22  But if you indeed obey His voice and do all that I speak, then I will be an enemy to your enemies and an adversary to your adversaries.

Exo 23:25  "So you shall serve the LORD your God, and He will bless your bread and your water. And I will take sickness away from the midst of you.

Exo 23:26  No one shall suffer miscarriage or be barren in your land; I will fulfill the number of your days.

Exo 23:27  "I will send My fear before you, I will cause confusion among all the people to whom you come, and will make all your enemies turn their backs to you.

Exo 23:28  And I will send hornets before you, which shall drive out the Hivite, the Canaanite, and the Hittite from before you.

Exo 23:29  I will not drive them out from before you in one year, lest the land become desolate and the beasts of the field become too numerous for you.

Exo 23:30  Little by little I will drive them out from before you, until you have increased, and you inherit the land.

Exo 23:31  And I will set your bounds from the Red Sea to the sea, Philistia, and from the desert to the River. For I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hand, and you shall drive them out before you.

What God the Father was offering to the Israelites was amazing.  Let’s see what happened next.

The Israelites said they would obey God.

Exo 24:3  So Moses came and told the people all the words of the LORD and all the judgments. And all the people answered with one voice and said, "All the words which the LORD has said we will do."

Exo 24:4  And Moses wrote all the words of the LORD. And he rose early in the morning, and built an altar at the foot of the mountain, and twelve pillars according to the twelve tribes of Israel.

Now the covenant is affirmed.

Exo 24:7  Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read in the hearing of the people. And they said, "All that the LORD has said we will do, and be obedient."

Exo 24:8  And Moses took the blood, sprinkled it on the people, and said, "This is the blood of the covenant which the LORD has made with you according to all these words."

After these things, it did not take Israel long for them to fall into disobedience, and disbelief as they constructed the golden calf, while Moses was with the Father.

The covenant was then renewed and the tablets of stone replaced, the following verses are in the covenant which God the Father made with Israel.

Exo 34:10  And He said: "Behold, I make a covenant. Before all your people I will do marvels such as have not been done in all the earth, nor in any nation; and all the people among whom you are shall see the work of the LORD. For it is an awesome thing that I will do with you.

Exo 34:11  Observe what I command you this day. Behold, I am driving out from before you the Amorite and the Canaanite and the Hittite and the Perizzite and the Hivite and the Jebusite.

Exo 34:12  Take heed to yourself, lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land where you are going, lest it be a snare in your midst.

Exo 34:13  But you shall destroy their altars, break their sacred pillars, and cut down their wooden images

Exo 34:14  (for you shall worship no other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God),

Exo 34:15  lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and they play the harlot with their gods and make sacrifice to their gods, and one of them invites you and you eat of his sacrifice,

Exo 34:16  and you take of his daughters for your sons, and his daughters play the harlot with their gods and make your sons play the harlot with their gods.

Exo 34:17  "You shall make no molded gods for yourselves.

Exo 34:18  "The Feast of Unleavened Bread you shall keep. Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, as I commanded you, in the appointed time of the month of Abib; for in the month of Abib you came out from Egypt.

Exo 34:19  "All that open the womb are Mine, and every male firstborn among your livestock, whether ox or sheep.

Exo 34:20  But the firstborn of a donkey you shall redeem with a lamb. And if you will not redeem him, then you shall break his neck. All the firstborn of your sons you shall redeem. "And none shall appear before Me empty-handed.

Exo 34:21  "Six days you shall work, but on the seventh day you shall rest; in plowing time and in harvest you shall rest.

Exo 34:22  "And you shall observe the Feast of Weeks, of the firstfruits of wheat harvest, and the Feast of Ingathering at the year's end.

Exo 34:23  "Three times in the year all your men shall appear before the Lord, the LORD God of Israel.

Exo 34:24  For I will cast out the nations before you and enlarge your borders; neither will any man covet your land when you go up to appear before the LORD your God three times in the year.

Exo 34:25  "You shall not offer the blood of My sacrifice with leaven, nor shall the sacrifice of the Feast of the Passover be left until morning.

Exo 34:26  "The first of the firstfruits of your land you shall bring to the house of the LORD your God. You shall not boil a young goat in its mother's milk."

Exo 34:27  Then the LORD said to Moses, "Write these words, for according to the tenor of these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel."

Notice how we are told to remember the covenant God made with Israel.  Especially we are told to remember the day God gave the Ten Commandments to Israel........that is the Feast of Trumpets.
We are told to remember this day and what happened on this day.

Deu 4:10  especially concerning the day you stood before the LORD your God in Horeb, when the LORD said to me, 'Gather the people to Me, and I will let them hear My words, that they may learn to fear Me all the days they live on the earth, and that they may teach their children.'

Deu 4:11  "Then you came near and stood at the foot of the mountain, and the mountain burned with fire to the midst of heaven, with darkness, cloud, and thick darkness.

The covenant between God and Israel.

Deu 4:12  And the LORD spoke to you out of the midst of the fire. You heard the sound of the words, but saw no form; you only heard a voice.

Deu 4:13  So He declared to you His covenant which He commanded you to perform, the Ten Commandments; and He wrote them on two tablets of stone.

Deu 4:14  And the LORD commanded me at that time to teach you statutes and judgments, that you might observe them in the land which you cross over to possess.

The Israelites did not see the shape of God, they only heard His voice, so that they would not try to make any image or likeness of Him.

Deu 4:15  "Take careful heed to yourselves, for you saw no form when the LORD spoke to you at Horeb out of the midst of the fire,

Deu 4:16  lest you act corruptly and make for yourselves a carved image in the form of any figure: the likeness of male or female,

Deu 4:17  the likeness of any animal that is on the earth or the likeness of any winged bird that flies in the air,

Deu 4:18  the likeness of anything that creeps on the ground or the likeness of any fish that is in the water beneath the earth.

Deu 4:19  And take heed, lest you lift your eyes to heaven, and when you see the sun, the moon, and the stars, all the host of heaven, you feel driven to worship them and serve them, which the LORD your God has given to all the peoples under the whole heaven as a heritage.

God told the Israelites to remember the covenant.

Deu 4:23  Take heed to yourselves, lest you forget the covenant of the LORD your God which He made with you, and make for yourselves a carved image in the form of anything which the LORD your God has forbidden you.

Deu 4:24  For the LORD your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.

Now let’s notice a repeat of the above events pictured on the Feast of Trumpets:

Notice Psalm 81 verse 3 this is the Feast of Trumpets, new moon, blow the trumpet, Feast day.

If you read the following verses carefully, you will see parts of the Ten Commandments mentioned.

Psa 81:6  "I removed his shoulder from the burden; His hands were freed from the baskets.

Psa 81:7  You called in trouble, and I delivered you; I answered you in the secret place of thunder; I tested you at the waters of Meribah. Selah

Psa 81:8  "Hear, O My people, and I will admonish you! O Israel, if you will listen to Me!

Psa 81:9  There shall be no foreign god among you; Nor shall you worship any foreign god.

Psa 81:10  I am the LORD your God, Who brought you out of the land of Egypt; Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.

Psa 81:11  "But My people would not heed My voice, And Israel would have none of Me.

Psa 81:12  So I gave them over to their own stubborn heart, To walk in their own counsels.

Psa 81:13  "Oh, that My people would listen to Me, That Israel would walk in My ways!

Psa 81:14  I would soon subdue their enemies, And turn My hand against their adversaries.

Psa 81:15  The haters of the LORD would pretend submission to Him, But their fate would endure forever.

Psa 81:16  He would have fed them also with the finest of wheat; And with honey from the rock I would have satisfied you."

Notice the recounting of the event of the covenant.

Heb 12:18  For you have not come to the mountain that may be touched and that burned with fire, and to blackness and darkness and tempest,

Heb 12:19  and the sound of a trumpet and the voice of words, so that those who heard it begged that the word should not be spoken to them anymore.

Moses reminded the people of the covenant they made with God the Father.

Deu 5:1  And Moses called all Israel, and said to them: "Hear, O Israel, the statutes and judgments which I speak in your hearing today, that you may learn them and be careful to observe them.

Deu 5:2  The LORD our God made a covenant with us in Horeb.

Deu 5:3  The LORD did not make this covenant with our fathers, but with us, those who are here today, all of us who are alive.

Deu 5:4  The LORD talked with you face to face on the mountain from the midst of the fire.

God wanted the Israelites to remember the covenant made with them at Horeb, He had Moses put the tablets in the Ark of the Covenant [there was also Aaron’s rod and a jar of manna originally in the ark, but it appears they had been removed at the time of the writing of 1st Kings.]

Heb 9:4  which had the golden censer and the ark of the covenant overlaid on all sides with gold, in which were the golden pot that had the manna, Aaron's rod that budded, and the tablets of the covenant;

1Ki 8:9  Nothing was in the ark except the two tablets of stone which Moses put there at Horeb, when the LORD made a covenant with the children of Israel, when they came out of the land of Egypt.

The next verse tells us to remember the law which was given at Horeb.

Mal 4:4  "Remember the Law of Moses, My servant, Which I commanded him in Horeb for all Israel, With the statutes and judgments.

Notice how the Feast of Trumpets was kept by Nehemiah
It is interesting to note that the book of the law was read for quiet some hours.  This book would have been Leviticus because this is the only book which mentions that the Israelites should live in booths during the seventh month.....Neh. 8 v 14.  It is interesting to note that this was discovered the day after Trumpets when the people gathered to learn more about the law under the teaching of Ezra.  This day after Trumpets may well have been the sabbath.

Neh 8:13  Now on the second day the heads of the fathers' houses of all the people, with the priests and Levites, were gathered to Ezra the scribe, in order to understand the words of the Law.

Neh 8:14  And they found written in the Law, which the LORD had commanded by Moses, that the children of Israel should dwell in booths during the feast of the seventh month,

The book of the law referred to in the following scripture is the book of Leviticus, and it was read on the first day of the seventh month, which is Trumpets.

Lev 23:42
You shall dwell in booths for seven days. All who are native Israelites shall dwell in booths,
Lev 23:43  that your generations may know that I made the children of Israel dwell in booths when I brought them out of the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.' "

Neh 8:1  Now all the people gathered together as one man in the open square that was in front of the Water Gate; and they told Ezra the scribe to bring the Book of the Law of Moses, which the LORD had commanded Israel.

Neh 8:2  So Ezra the priest brought the Law before the assembly of men and women and all who could hear with understanding on the first day of the seventh month.

The reading of the book of the law started in the morning and finished at noon.

Neh 8:3  Then he read from it in the open square that was in front of the Water Gate from morning until midday, before the men and women and those who could understand; and the ears of all the people were attentive to the Book of the Law.

Neh 8:4  So Ezra the scribe stood on a platform of wood which they had made for the purpose; and beside him, at his right hand, stood Mattithiah, Shema, Anaiah, Urijah, Hilkiah, and Maaseiah; and at his left hand Pedaiah, Mishael, Malchijah, Hashum, Hashbadana, Zechariah, and Meshullam.

Neh 8:5  And Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people, for he was standing above all the people; and when he opened it, all the people stood up.

Neh 8:6  And Ezra blessed the LORD, the great God. Then all the people answered, "Amen, Amen!" while lifting up their hands. And they bowed their heads and worshiped the LORD with their faces to the ground.

Neh 8:7  Also Jeshua, Bani, Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodijah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, and the Levites, helped the people to understand the Law; and the people stood in their place.

It appears in the above verses that there were a number of sermons or sermonettes given by these men, quite a lot of men spoke, so perhaps in the form of sermonettes.

The ministers gave the understanding of the book of the law and the people were told not to mourn, but to rejoice.

Neh 8:8  So they read distinctly from the book, in the Law of God; and they gave the sense, and helped them to understand the reading.

Neh 8:9  And Nehemiah, who was the governor, Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who taught the people said to all the people, "This day is holy to the LORD your God; do not mourn nor weep." For all the people wept, when they heard the words of the Law.

After they had heard the law explained to them, they ate and drank and sent portions to those who had nothing, and they were very joyous.

Neh 8:10  Then he said to them, "Go your way, eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to those for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. Do not sorrow, for the joy of the LORD is your strength."

Neh 8:11  So the Levites quieted all the people, saying, "Be still, for the day is holy; do not be grieved."

Neh 8:12  And all the people went their way to eat and drink, to send portions and rejoice greatly, because they understood the words that were declared to them.

It is clear by all the above scriptures that the Feast of Trumpets pictures the giving of the Ten Commandments at Horeb which was a covenant between God the Father and the nation of Israel

When God the Father spoke the covenant at Horeb it was preceded by blasts of the Trumpet.

This Feast is to be a memorial, a blowing of trumpets, this is what happened at Horeb.  This is the memorial a blowing of trumpets….This is the Feast of Trumpets.

This Feast falls on the 1st day of the Seventh month.  It will be a new moon.  It is imperative that we know the correct time for the new moon, as described above.  We should all be diligent to find out this information where ever we live, also note that the world changes days at midnight, we change to a new day as God has directed at the setting of the sun.
Therefore again we need to be very careful to have the right day.  For example if they state the new moon is the 3rd at 2028pm, by the world’s standards the date is still the 3rd because it is before midnight, but for us, it is passed sunset so it is on the next day, the 4th. This can be a little tricky but with care and attention it can be worked out.

The Feast should be kept as Nehemiah kept it.
Today we have church services from early morning till midday, being careful to read the book of Leviticus, and then eat drink and be merry and share our food with others, for the remainder of the day, it should be a day of great joy.

Neh 8:3  Then he read from it in the open square that was in front of the Water Gate from morning until midday, before the men and women and those who could understand; and the ears of all the people were attentive to the Book of the Law.

Neh 8:10  Then he said to them, "Go your way, eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to those for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. Do not sorrow, for the joy of the LORD is your strength."

Neh 8:12  And all the people went their way to eat and drink, to send portions and rejoice greatly, because they understood the words that were declared to them.

On the Feast of Trumpets, we remember the covenant that God made with the Israelites at Horeb, but we need to realise that today we are under the new covenant.
The new covenant is spiritual obedience to God as well as physically keeping of the law, which will be rewarded by the receiving of the earnest of the Spirit, which is the down payment for eternal life.
When we continue to believe God, and obey Him, He will eventually give us the Holy Spirit of power.  This is our inheritance, eternal life inherent.
We must of course endure to the end and continue to overcome and grow, believe God and obey Him, for this inheritance to be in force.

The 4th chapter of Deuteronomy is mainly talking about the Feast of Trumpets and telling us to remember this great event.

Let’s notice some of the scriptures.

Deu 4:5  "Surely I have taught you statutes and judgments, just as the LORD my God commanded me, that you should act according to them in the land which you go to possess.

Deu 4:6  Therefore be careful to observe them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples who will hear all these statutes, and say, 'Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.'

Deu 4:7  "For what great nation is there that has God so near to it, as the LORD our God is to us, for whatever reason we may call upon Him?

Deu 4:8  And what great nation is there that has such statutes and righteous judgments as are in all this law which I set before you this day?

Deu 4:9  Only take heed to yourself, and diligently keep yourself, lest you forget the things your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life. And teach them to your children and your grandchildren,

Deu 4:20  But the LORD has taken you and brought you out of the iron furnace, out of Egypt, to be His people, an inheritance, as you are this day.

Deu 4:21  Furthermore the LORD was angry with me for your sakes, and swore that I would not cross over the Jordan, and that I would not enter the good land which the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance.

Deu 4:22  But I must die in this land, I must not cross over the Jordan; but you shall cross over and possess that good land.

Deu 4:25  "When you beget children and grandchildren and have grown old in the land, and act corruptly and make a carved image in the form of anything, and do evil in the sight of the LORD your God to provoke Him to anger,

Deu 4:26  I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that you will soon utterly perish from the land which you cross over the Jordan to possess; you will not prolong your days in it, but will be utterly destroyed.

Deu 4:32  "For ask now concerning the days that are past, which were before you, since the day that God created man on the earth, and ask from one end of heaven to the other, whether any great thing like this has happened, or anything like it has been heard.

Deu 4:33  Did any people ever hear the voice of God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as you have heard, and live?

Deu 4:34  Or did God ever try to go and take for Himself a nation from the midst of another nation, by trials, by signs, by wonders, by war, by a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, and by great terrors, according to all that the LORD your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes?

Deu 4:35  To you it was shown, that you might know that the LORD Himself is God; there is none other besides Him.

Deu 4:36  Out of heaven He let you hear His voice, that He might instruct you; on earth He showed you His great fire, and you heard His words out of the midst of the fire.

Deu 4:37  And because He loved your fathers, therefore He chose their descendants after them; and He brought you out of Egypt with His Presence, with His mighty power,

Deu 4:38  driving out from before you nations greater and mightier than you, to bring you in, to give you their land as an inheritance, as it is this day.

The only difference between the old and the new covenants is that under the old covenant the Israelites had ears to hear and eyes to see, but refused to hear and see, they would not listen to or obey God.
Under the new covenant, God writes His laws on our hearts and we WANT TO keep the laws and statutes. This is made possible by the shedding of the blood of Jesus Christ who has paid the penalty of sin for us, and the receiving of the earnest of the Spirit.
Today the greater majority of the nation of Israel is ignorant of God’s laws. These statutes and laws will be restored to the nation of Israel by the soon coming Elijah.
John the Baptist also fulfilled this commission.

The law and the prophets hang on the Commandments.

Mat 22:36  "Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?"
Mat 22:37  Jesus said to him, '
YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.'
Mat 22:38
This is the first and great commandment.
Mat 22:39  And the second is like it: 'YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOUR AS YOURSELF.'
Mat 22:40  On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets."
