THIS IS THE WAY

This article gives the steps to attain eternal life. Read the scriptures carefully.

Jesus was asked the way to eternal life.

Mat 19:16  Now behold, one came and said to Him, “Good Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?”

To enter into life; we must keep the commandments. [Jesus quoted some of the commandments, but there is plenty of scriptural proof that all commandments must be kept.]

Mat 19:17  So He said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.”

Notice what else is required. When it is in our power to do so, we must help the poor. We all must have a place to live. If we sell everything and give it away, then we will be poor and need help. In the following scripture, the first part of Christ’s answer, is in the context of giving as we are able. The man in question was wealthy. He had excess to give to the poor, and could well afford to offer much to the poor. We must be careful and use wisdom, when we gain understanding of the scriptures.

We must follow Christ.

Mat 19:21  Jesus said to him, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”

We must come to Christ, to attain eternal life.

Joh 5:39  You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me.

Joh 5:40  But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life.

Christ is the only way to eternal life.

Act 4:12  Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

Look at the common denominator of the firstfruits. They follow Christ.

Rev 14:4  These are the ones who were not defiled with women, for they are virgins. These are the ones who follow the Lamb wherever He goes. These were redeemed from among men, being firstfruits to God and to the Lamb.

Since the death of Mr. Armstrong, most people have aligned themselves to a breakaway church, where they feel most comfortable. Some go from one church to another like lost souls, refusing to make a commitment. Look what happened in the early church.

1Co 1:12  Now I say this, that each of you says, “I am of Paul,” or “I am of Apollos,” or “I am of Cephas,” or “I am of Christ.”

1Co 1:13  Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?

Each era of God’s church had different rewards for different responsibilities. The genuine Philadelphians had to hold fast to what they had, and were to be kept from end time trouble.

Jesus Christ is the way to eternal life, and this way is revealed in the Bible. Jesus Christ will build His church on the rock. The rock is the knowledge that Jesus is the Son of the living God. This knowledge has to be revealed by God.

Mat 16:15  He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”

Mat 16:16  Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

Mat 16:17  Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.

Mat 16:18  And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.

God the Father has once again revealed that Christ is His Son, from the beginning. He has also given the keys of the Kingdom, just as He said. These keys are the way to eternal life, and all must be kept.

Mat 16:19  And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”

The keys of the kingdom are as follows.

[1] Belief.

Rev 21:8  But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”

[2] Fear [being in awe and reverence] of God.

Rev 11:18  The nations were angry, and Your wrath has come, And the time of the dead, that they should be judged, And that You should reward Your servants the prophets and the saints, And those who fear Your name, small and great, And should destroy those who destroy the earth.”

[3] Obedience to God.

2Th 1:8  in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.

2Th 1:9  These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power,

[4] Commandment keeping.

Rev 22:14  Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city.

[5] Love.

1Jn 3:14  We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love his brother abides in death.

[6] Doing good.

Mat 25:34  Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

Mat 25:35  for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in;

Mat 25:36  I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’

[7] Keeping Passover correctly.

Joh 6:54  Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.

[8] Knowing God the Father and God the Son.

Joh 17:3  And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.

[9] Love of the truth.

2Th 2:10  and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

[10] Faith.

1Pe 1:9  receiving the end of your faith the salvation of your souls.

God will give all things that attain to eternal life. Notice that this knowledge is dependent on knowing God and Christ.

2Pe 1:1  Simon Peter, a bondservant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have obtained like precious faith with us by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ:

2Pe 1:2  Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord,

2Pe 1:3  as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue,

We have to grow in Godly attributes and put off the corruption of this world.

2Pe 1:4  by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

2Pe 1:5  But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge,

2Pe 1:6  to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness,

2Pe 1:7  to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love.

2Pe 1:8  For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

2Pe 1:9  For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins.

Jesus Christ has revealed the keys of the kingdom: We have all the words of eternal life. God is not mocked, we must be serious about our calling.

2Co 10:5  casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,

It is up to us individually to be diligent with our calling.

2Pe 1:10  Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble;

2Pe 1:11  for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

We must study the Bible to show ourselves approved unto God, and we must be instant in prayer. We must endure to the end.

Mat 24:13  But he who endures to the end shall be saved.
