THE BODY OF CHRIST
It is
extremely important to
understand the symbols of the Passover; as eating
these symbols is a
requirement of eternal life. Joh 6:54 Whoever eats My flesh
and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I
will raise him up at the last day. Christ
instigated the New
Testament symbols of His body, the night before He
was crucified. Mat 26:26 And as
they were eating, Jesus took bread,
blessed and broke it, and gave it to the
disciples and said, “Take,
eat; this is My body.” Mar 14:22 And as
they were eating, Jesus took bread,
blessed and broke it, and gave it to them and
said, “Take,
eat; this is My body.” The bread
symbolises the body
of Christ, which was broken for us. 1Co 11:24 and
when He had given thanks, He broke it and
said, “Take, eat; this
is My body which is broken for
you; do this in remembrance of Me.” 1Co 11:26 For as
often as you eat this bread and drink
this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He
comes. Christ
suffered voluntarily. Luk 22:19 And He
took bread, gave thanks and broke it,
and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is
given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” Isaiah 53
gives insight into
the suffering of Christ. Isa 53:1 Who
has believed our report? And to whom has
the arm of the LORD been revealed? Isa 53:2 For He
shall grow up before Him as a tender
plant, And as a root out of dry ground. He has
no form or comeliness; And when
we see Him, There is no beauty that we should
desire Him. Isa 53:3 He is
despised and rejected by men, A Man of
sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid,
as it were, our faces from Him;
He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. Christ
suffered terribly for
our grief, sorrows, transgressions, and
iniquities. He was chastised that we
might have peace; He was beaten that we might be
healed. Christ was beaten for
the iniquities of every person ever born. Isa 53:4 Surely
He has borne our griefs And carried
our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken,
Smitten by God, and afflicted. Isa 53:5 But He
was wounded for our transgressions, He
was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement
for our peace was upon Him,
And by His stripes we are healed. Isa 53:6 All we
like sheep have gone astray; We have
turned, every one, to his own way; And the LORD
has laid on Him the iniquity of
us all. Christ
suffered and died for
our transgressions. Isa 53:7 He was
oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He
opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to
the slaughter, And as a sheep
before its shearers is silent, So He opened not
His mouth. Isa 53:8 He was
taken from prison and from judgment,
And who will declare His generation? For He was
cut off from the land of the
living; For the transgressions of My people He
was stricken. Christ is
the true bread from
heaven. Joh 6:32 Then
Jesus said to them, “Most
assuredly, I say to you, Moses did not give
you the
bread from heaven, but My Father gives you the
true bread from heaven. Joh 6:33 For the bread of God
is He who comes down from heaven and gives
life to the world.” Joh 6:35 And
Jesus said to them, “I
am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall
never
hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never
thirst. Joh 6:47 Most assuredly, I say
to you, he who believes in Me has everlasting
life. Joh 6:48 I am the bread of
life. Joh 6:50 This is the bread
which comes down from heaven, that one may eat
of it and not die. Joh 6:53 Then
Jesus said to them, “Most
assuredly, I say to you, unless you eat the
flesh of
the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have
no life in you. Joh 6:54 Whoever eats My flesh
and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I
will raise him up at the last day. Joh 6:55 For My flesh is food
indeed, and My blood is drink indeed. To correctly
eat the body of
Christ means to live our lives by Christ’s
example. Joh 6:57 As the living Father
sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so
he who feeds on Me will live
because of Me. Joh 6:58 This is the bread
which came down from heaven not as your
fathers ate the manna, and are dead. He
who eats this bread will live forever.” Jer 15:16 Your
words were found, and I ate them, And
Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my
heart; For I am called by Your
name, O LORD God of hosts. We are also
required to drink
the wine signifying Christ’s blood. Luk 22:20 Likewise
He also took the cup after supper,
saying, “This cup is
the new covenant in My blood,
which is shed for you. Christ’s
blood ratified the
new covenant. Mat 26:27 Then
He took the cup, and gave thanks, and
gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. Mat 26:28 For this is My blood
of the new covenant, which is shed for many
for the remission of sins. Mar 14:23 Then
He took the cup, and when He had given
thanks He gave it to them, and they all drank
from it. Mar 14:24 And He
said to them, “This
is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed
for many. 1Co 11:25 In the
same manner He also took the cup after
supper, saying, “This
cup is the new covenant in My
blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in
remembrance of Me.” Christ’s
death obtains
redemption for our sins. Heb 9:11 But
Christ came as High Priest of the good
things to come, with the greater and more
perfect tabernacle not made with
hands, that is, not of this creation. Heb 9:12 Not
with the blood of goats and calves, but
with His own blood He entered the Most Holy
Place once for all, having obtained
eternal redemption. Heb 9:13 For if
the blood of bulls and goats and the
ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean,
sanctifies for the purifying of the
flesh, Heb 9:14 how
much more shall the blood of Christ, who
through the eternal Spirit offered Himself
without spot to God, cleanse your
conscience from dead works to serve the living
God? Heb 9:15 And
for this reason He is the Mediator of the
new covenant, by means of death, for the
redemption of the transgressions under
the first covenant, that those who are called
may receive the promise of the
eternal inheritance. Heb 9:16 For
where there is a testament, there must
also of necessity be the death of the testator. We are
redeemed from sin with
the precious blood of Christ. 1Pe 1:18 knowing
that you were not redeemed with
corruptible things, like silver or gold, from
your aimless conduct received by
tradition from your fathers, 1Pe 1:19 but
with the precious blood of Christ, as of
a lamb without blemish and without spot. Christ’s
death gives us
redemption from our sins and also makes the new
covenant available. Heb 10:16 “THIS
IS THE COVENANT THAT I WILL MAKE WITH
THEM AFTER THOSE DAYS, SAYS THE LORD: I WILL PUT
MY LAWS INTO THEIR HEARTS, AND
IN THEIR MINDS I WILL WRITE THEM,” The Passover
ceremony is a
memorial of Christ’s death. 1Co 11:26 For as
often as you eat this bread and drink
this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He
comes. Eating the
bread [1]
Christ bears our grief and sorrows. [2]
Christ suffered for our transgressions and
iniquities. [3]
We
can have peace. [4]
We
are healed. [5]
We
live our life by Christ’s example. Drinking the
wine [1]
We
have remission of sins. [2]
The
new covenant is available to us. We must
examine ourselves so
we can take the Passover in a correct attitude. 1Co 11:26 For as
often as you eat this bread and drink
this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He
comes. 1Co 11:27 Therefore
whoever eats this bread or drinks
this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will
be guilty of the body and blood
of the Lord. 1Co 11:28 But
let a man examine himself, and so let him
eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 1Co 11:29 For he
who eats and drinks in an unworthy
manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not
discerning the Lord’s body. There is no
other way to
eternal life in God’s kingdom. Joh 14:6 Jesus
said to him, “I
am the way, the truth, and the life. No one
comes to the Father except through
Me. |
