HOLY DAYS
The holy
days of God are to
be kept forever. They should all be kept now by God’s
people and will be kept
in the Kingdom of God by all God’s people. What do the
holy days
picture? We will
start with the
Passover which is not a Holy Day but is a preparation
day. The Passover day is
the 14th of Abib or Nisan. Exo 12:26
And it shall be,
when your children say to you, ‘What do you mean by
this service?’ Exo 12:27
that you shall say,
‘It is the Passover sacrifice of the LORD, who
passed over the houses of the
children of Israel in Egypt when He struck the
Egyptians and delivered our
households.’ ” So the people bowed their heads and
worshiped. The original
Passover was a
sacrifice, the death angel passed over the Israelites,
they were not harmed if
they had the blood of the sacrificial lambs on their
doors. Exo 12:22 And you
shall take a bunch of hyssop, dip it
in the blood that is in the basin, and strike the
lintel and the two doorposts
with the blood that is in the basin. And none of you
shall go out of the door
of his house until morning. Exo 12:23 For the
LORD will pass through to strike the
Egyptians; and when He sees the blood on the lintel
and on the two doorposts,
the LORD will pass over the door and not allow the
destroyer to come into your
houses to strike you. In the New
Testament, the
Passover was the day that Jesus Christ died for our
sins. The Passover day
itself is a preparation day. On this day we prepare
everything that is needed
for the Passover Service, which is to be held that
night, after sunset, the
start of the 15th of Abib or Nisan, which
is the first day of
Unleavened Bread. Mar 15:42 Now when
evening had come, because it was the
Preparation Day, that is, the day before the
Sabbath, Mar 15:43 Joseph of
Arimathea, a prominent council
member, who was himself waiting for the kingdom of
God, coming and taking
courage, went in to Pilate and asked for the body of
Jesus. THE
DAYS
OF UNLEAVENED BREAD THE
FIRST
DAY OF UNLEAVENED BREAD The days of
Unleavened Bread,
are a joyous time, we have had our sins forgiven and
we strive to live our
lives without sin. The First day of Unleavened Bread,
is a reminder that God
brought the Israelites out of Egypt at this time, and
we need to remember that
we are leaving the old ways of sin behind us. Exo 13:8 And you
shall tell your son in that day,
saying, ‘This is done because of what the LORD did
for me when I came up from
Egypt.’ Exo 13:9 It shall
be as a sign to you on your hand and
as a memorial between your eyes, that the LORD’s law
may be in your mouth; for
with a strong hand the LORD has brought you out of
Egypt. 2Ch 30:21 So the
children of Israel who were present at
Jerusalem kept the Feast of Unleavened Bread seven
days with great gladness;
and the Levites and the priests praised the LORD day
by day, singing to the
LORD, accompanied by loud instruments. THIS
IS THE DAY
JESUS WAS RESURECTED WAVESHEAF The
Wavesheaf is the first
Sunday during Unleavened Bread. It pictures Christ’s
sacrifice being accepted
by God the Father for us. Because Christ died for us
and His sacrifice was
accepted by the Father, then the way to the Father is
available. He is our God,
and our Father. Christ said He was ascending to My
Father and your Father, My
God and your God. Joh 20:17 Jesus said
to her, “Do
not cling to Me, for I have not yet ascended to My
Father; but go to My
brethren and say to them, ‘I am ascending to My
Father and your Father, and to
My God and your God.’ ” ALSO
PICTURES
CHRIST RAISED FROM THE DEAD (Hell) THE
LAST
DAY OF UNLEAVENED BREAD This is a
solemn feast and
pictures the time the Israelites rejected God the
Father. Jer 2:13 “For My
people have committed two evils: They
have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, And
hewn themselves
cisterns—broken cisterns that can hold no water. Jer 2:17 Have you
not brought this on yourself, In
that you have forsaken the LORD your God When He led
you in the way? PENTECOST This Feast
is counted from
the Wavesheaf and pictures receiving the Holy Spirit
of Power. Act 11:15 And as I
began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell
upon them, as upon us at the beginning. THE
FEAST
OF TRUMPETS This is a
memorial day of
giving the Ten Commandments. It falls on the 1st
of the month which
is a new moon. Lev 23:24 “Speak to
the children of Israel, saying: ‘In
the seventh month, on the first day of the month,
you shall have a
sabbath-rest, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, a
holy convocation. THE
DAY
OF ATONEMENT This day is
a fast day, and
we have to afflict our souls for the entire 24 hour
fasting period. This means
to be debased and to be truly sorry for our sins. Lev 23:27 “Also the
tenth day of this seventh month
shall be the Day of Atonement. It shall be a holy
convocation for you; you
shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made
by fire to the LORD. Lev 23:28 And you
shall do no work on that same day,
for it is the Day of Atonement, to make atonement
for you before the LORD your
God. Lev 23:29 For any
person who is not afflicted in soul
on that same day shall be cut off from his people. Lev 23:30 And any
person who does any work on that same
day, that person I will destroy from among his
people. Lev 23:31 You shall
do no manner of work; it shall be a
statute forever throughout your generations in all
your dwellings. THE
FEAST
OF TABERNACLES The Feast
pictures that we
are temporary. We erect a booth and sit in it for a
short period of time each
day of the feast. We think of how the Israelites were
wanderers for 40 years,
and they lived in temporary dwellings. Our physical
bodies are temporary, one
day we will die. The Feast pictures that we are
temporary and we need to think
about this every day, not just during the feast,
because we never know when we
are going to die, it is a good idea to stay close to
God and know that our days
are like the grass. Lev 23:42 You shall
dwell in booths for seven days. All
who are native Israelites shall dwell in booths, Lev 23:43 that your
generations may know that I made
the children of Israel dwell in booths when I
brought them out of the land of
Egypt: I am the LORD your God.’ ” Psa 102:11 My days
are like a shadow that lengthens, And
I wither away like grass. THE
LAST
GREAT DAY This feast
pictures when we
will be changed to spirit, the temporary condition is
over, and we will be
alive forever with God. It pictures
a resurrection to
eternal life. Joh 6:40 And this is the will
of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son
and believes in Him may have
everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the
last day.” |
