GENEALOGY IN THE BIBLE

A close look at genealogy in the Bible appears to make the Bible full of errors. Anyone with an ounce of common sense will know that the supreme God, who created heaven and earth; and all things in heaven and earth, would have no trouble authoring a book with no contradictions.

The Bible is impossible to understand, until God reveals it. This is because to understand the Bible is to know God. To know God is to have eternal life.

Joh 17:3  And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.

There are no mistakes in the Bible. Eternal life is not generally available at this time, but eventually everyone will be offered eternal life, and the knowledge of the truth.

1Ti 2:4  who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

2Ti 3:7  always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

I will show some of the genealogy which appears to be incorrect.

1Sa 9:1  There was a man of Benjamin whose name was Kish the son of Abiel, the son of Zeror, the son of Bechorath, the son of Aphiah, a Benjamite, a mighty man of power.

1Sa 9:2  And he had a choice and handsome son whose name was Saul. There was not a more handsome person than he among the children of Israel. From his shoulders upward he was taller than any of the people.

1Ch 8:33  Ner begot Kish, Kish begot Saul, and Saul begot Jonathan, Malchishua, Abinadab, and Esh-Baal.

Solomon was the first living son to Bath-sheba, the first baby died just after birth.

2Sa 12:24  Then David comforted Bathsheba his wife, and went in to her and lay with her. So she bore a son, and he called his name Solomon. Now the LORD loved him,

David had four sons to Bath-shua; [not Bath-Sheba.] Solomon was the fourth.

1Ch 3:5  And these were born to him in Jerusalem: Shimea, Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon four by Bathshua the daughter of Ammiel.

It is very obvious that there are two Kish’s, two Sauls, two Solomons, and there are definitely two Davids.

One David was a man of war who played music for Saul, and one David was a ruddy youth who killed Goliath.

Read this scripture carefully. One David is a king, and is ‘David my servant’ The other David is a prince and is ‘my servant David.’

Eze 37:24  “David My servant shall be king over them, and they shall all have one shepherd; they shall also walk in My judgments and observe My statutes, and do them.

Eze 37:25  Then they shall dwell in the land that I have given to Jacob My servant, where your fathers dwelt; and they shall dwell there, they, their children, and their children’s children, forever; and My servant David shall be their prince forever.

God does not want us to waste our time on endless genealogy, as there are more important things to learn.

1Ti 1:4  nor give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which cause disputes rather than godly edification which is in faith.

One thing we do know: the genealogy in the Bible is correct. God will not, and cannot lie.
