ESAU
The book of Obadiah
is a prophecy of the future of Esau. Esau was the
firstborn of Isaac, but he sold his birthright,
and God hated him. Rom
9:13 As
it is written, “JACOB I HAVE LOVED, BUT ESAU I
HAVE HATED.” Esau is also called
Edom. Gen
36:19 These
were the sons of Esau, who is Edom, and these
were their chiefs. Gen
36:43 Chief
Magdiel, and Chief Iram. These were the chiefs
of Edom, according to their dwelling places in
the land of their possession. Esau was the
father of the Edomites. Esau was given
Mount Seir. Deu
2:5 Do
not meddle with them, for I will not give you
any of their land, no, not so much as one
footstep, because I have given Mount Seir to
Esau as a possession. Gen
36:8 So
Esau dwelt in Mount Seir. Esau is Edom. Edom is included in
the curse. Eze
35:15 As
you rejoiced because the inheritance of the
house of Israel was desolate, so I will do to
you; you shall be desolate, O Mount Seir, as
well as all of Edom—all of it! Then they shall
know that I am the LORD.” ’ Edom consists of a
small amount of people. It seems certain that
Edomites are Turkey. They dwell in high
habitation. Oba
1:1 The
vision of Obadiah. Thus says the Lord GOD
concerning Edom (We have heard a report from the
LORD, And a messenger has been sent among the
nations, saying, “Arise, and let us rise up
against her for battle”): Oba
1:2 “Behold,
I will make you small among the nations; You
shall be greatly despised. Esau tries to
eradicate Israel during the time of Israel’s
punishment. Eze
35:5 “Because
you have had an ancient hatred, and have shed
the blood of the children of Israel by the power
of the sword at the time of their calamity, when
their iniquity came to an end, Oba
1:5 “If
thieves had come to you, If robbers by night—
Oh, how you will be cut off!— Would they not
have stolen till they had enough? If
grape-gatherers had come to you, Would they not
have left some gleanings? Oba
1:6 “Oh,
how Esau shall be searched out! How his hidden
treasures shall be sought after! Oba
1:7 All
the men in your confederacy Shall force you to
the border; The men at peace with you Shall
deceive you and prevail against you. Those who
eat your bread shall lay a trap for you. No one
is aware of it. Oba
1:8 “Will
I not in that day,” says the LORD, “Even destroy
the wise men from Edom, And understanding from
the mountains of Esau? Oba
1:9 Then
your mighty men, O Teman, shall be dismayed, To
the end that everyone from the mountains of Esau
May be cut off by slaughter. Oba
1:10 “For
violence against your brother Jacob, Shame shall
cover you, And you shall be cut off forever. Oba
1:11 In
the day that you stood on the other side— In the
day that strangers carried captive his forces,
When foreigners entered his gates And cast lots
for Jerusalem— Even you were as one of them. Oba
1:12 “But
you should not have gazed on the day of your
brother In the day of his captivity; Nor should
you have rejoiced over the children of Judah In
the day of their destruction; Nor should you
have spoken proudly In the day of distress. Oba
1:13 You
should not have entered the gate of My people In
the day of their calamity. Indeed, you should
not have gazed on their affliction In the day of
their calamity, Nor laid hands on their
substance In the day of their calamity. Oba
1:14 You
should not have stood at the crossroads To cut
off those among them who escaped; Nor should you
have delivered up those among them who remained
In the day of distress. Oba
1:15 “For
the day of the LORD upon all the nations is
near; As you have done, it shall be done to you;
Your reprisal shall return upon your own head. Oba
1:16 For
as you drank on My holy mountain, So shall all
the nations drink continually; Yes, they shall
drink, and swallow, And they shall be as though
they had never been. Oba
1:17 “But
on Mount Zion there shall be deliverance, And
there shall be holiness; The house of Jacob
shall possess their possessions. Oba
1:18 The
house of Jacob shall be a fire, And the house of
Joseph a flame; But the house of Esau shall be
stubble; They shall kindle them and devour them,
And no survivor shall remain of the house of
Esau,” For the LORD has spoken. Oba
1:19 The
South shall possess the mountains of Esau, And
the Lowland shall possess Philistia. They shall
possess the fields of Ephraim And the fields of
Samaria. Benjamin shall possess Gilead. Oba
1:20 And
the captives of this host of the children of
Israel Shall possess the land of the Canaanites
As far as Zarephath. The captives of Jerusalem
who are in Sepharad Shall possess the cities of
the South. Oba
1:21 Then
saviors shall come to Mount Zion To judge the
mountains of Esau, And the kingdom shall be the
LORD’s. Eze
35:1 Moreover
the word of the LORD came to me, saying, Eze
35:2 “Son
of man, set your face against Mount Seir and
prophesy against it, Eze
35:3 and
say to it, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “Behold, O
Mount Seir, I am against you; I will stretch out
My hand against you, And make you most desolate; Eze
35:4 I
shall lay your cities waste, And you shall be
desolate. Then you shall know that I am the
LORD. Eze
35:5 “Because
you have had an ancient hatred, and have shed
the blood of the children of Israel by the power
of the sword at the time of their calamity, when
their iniquity came to an end, Eze
35:6 therefore,
as I live,” says the Lord GOD, “I will prepare
you for blood, and blood shall pursue you; since
you have not hated blood, therefore blood shall
pursue you. Eze
35:7 Thus
I will make Mount Seir most desolate, and cut
off from it the one who leaves and the one who
returns. Eze
35:8 And
I will fill its mountains with the slain; on
your hills and in your valleys and in all your
ravines those who are slain by the sword shall
fall. Eze
35:9 I
will make you perpetually desolate, and your
cities shall be uninhabited; then you shall know
that I am the LORD. Eze
35:10 “Because
you have said, ‘These two nations and these two
countries shall be mine, and we will possess
them,’ although the LORD was there, Eze
35:11 therefore,
as I live,” says the Lord GOD, “I will do
according to your anger and according to the
envy which you showed in your hatred against
them; and I will make Myself known among them
when I judge you. Eze
35:12 Then
you shall know that I am the LORD. I have heard
all your blasphemies which you have spoken
against the mountains of Israel, saying, ‘They
are desolate; they are given to us to consume.’ Eze
35:13 Thus
with your mouth you have boasted against Me and
multiplied your words against Me; I have heard
them.” Eze
35:14 ‘Thus
says the Lord GOD: “The whole earth will rejoice
when I make you desolate. Eze
35:15 As
you rejoiced because the inheritance of the
house of Israel was desolate, so I will do to
you; you shall be desolate, O Mount Seir, as
well as all of Edom—all of it! Then they shall
know that I am the LORD.” ’ Ezek. 35: quoted
above gives the reasons that God makes their land
desolate forever. Esau despised his
birthright. Heb
12:16 lest
there be any fornicator or profane person like
Esau, who for one morsel of food sold his
birthright. Esau refused to let
Israel pass through their land. Num
20:18 Then
Edom said to him, “You shall not pass through my
land, lest I come out against you with the
sword.” Num
20:19 So
the children of Israel said to him, “We will go
by the Highway, and if I or my livestock drink
any of your water, then I will pay for it; let
me only pass through on foot, nothing more.” Num
20:20 Then
he said, “You shall not pass through.” So Edom
came out against them with many men and with a
strong hand. Num
20:21 Thus
Edom refused to give Israel passage through his
territory; so Israel turned away from him. All through
history; the Edomites have hated the Israelites.
In the future when Israel are decimated by God:
the Edomites try to eliminate them completely. The land of Edom
will be turned into a desolation, which shall last
forever. Certain animals, and birds will dwell
there. Isaiah 34 tells the story. Isa
34:5 “For
My sword shall be bathed in heaven; Indeed it
shall come down on Edom, And on the people of My
curse, for judgment. Isa
34:6 The
sword of the LORD is filled with blood, It is
made overflowing with fatness, With the blood of
lambs and goats, With the fat of the kidneys of
rams. For the LORD has a sacrifice in Bozrah,
And a great slaughter in the land of Edom. Isa
34:7 The
wild oxen shall come down with them, And the
young bulls with the mighty bulls; Their land
shall be soaked with blood, And their dust
saturated with fatness.” Isa
34:8 For
it is the day of the LORD’s vengeance, The year
of recompense for the cause of Zion. Isa
34:9 Its
streams shall be turned into pitch, And its dust
into brimstone; Its land shall become burning
pitch. Isa
34:10 It
shall not be quenched night or day; Its smoke
shall ascend forever. From generation to
generation it shall lie waste; No one shall pass
through it forever and ever. Isa
34:11 But
the pelican and the porcupine shall possess it,
Also the owl and the raven shall dwell in it.
And He shall stretch out over it The line of
confusion and the stones of emptiness. Isa
34:12 They
shall call its nobles to the kingdom, But none
shall be there, and all its princes shall be
nothing. Isa
34:13 And
thorns shall come up in its palaces, Nettles and
brambles in its fortresses; It shall be a
habitation of jackals, A courtyard for
ostriches. Isa
34:14 The
wild beasts of the desert shall also meet with
the jackals, And the wild goat shall bleat to
its companion; Also the night creature shall
rest there, And find for herself a place of
rest. Isa
34:15 There
the arrow snake shall make her nest and lay eggs
And hatch, and gather them under her shadow;
There also shall the hawks be gathered, Every
one with her mate. Isa
34:16 “Search
from the book of the LORD, and read: Not one of
these shall fail; Not one shall lack her mate.
For My mouth has commanded it, and His Spirit
has gathered them. Isa
34:17 He
has cast the lot for them, And His hand has
divided it among them with a measuring line.
They shall possess it forever; From generation
to generation they shall dwell in it.” Latter day Esauites
[Edomites] are almost certainly Turkey. They are
small in number, and inhabit Petra, as well as the
waste places around Jerusalem; and other middle
east countries. God will destroy them completely,
because of their attitude toward Israel. They try
to completely destroy Israel, when the Israelites
get decimated by gentile nations. Esau’s land,
which includes Mt. Seir, and Idumea: will be
cursed forever. It will have smoke, and bitumen
lakes forever. Some animals, and birds will make
it their home, and they will dwell there forever,
as per Isaiah ch. 34. |
