DO WE KNOW WHO GOD IS?

When I have asked various people this question and they cannot give me the biblical answer, then they usually say things like, yes but how will this knowledge affect our salvation.

Then they usually say that to love thy neighbour and to be a good Christian in works and deeds is what is required. This is required and to do these things is an essential part of our Christian life, however much more is required of us.

Well what about knowledge and what about knowledge of God.

Is it important?

Let’s see what God thinks about this subject.

Firstly we will look at knowledge.

David asked God to teach him knowledge.

Psa 119:66  Teach me good judgment and knowledge, For I believe Your commandments.

The wisest man who ever lived said that to fear God is the beginning of knowledge.

Pro 1:7  The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, But fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Knowledge is something we need to be seeking earnestly in prayer, we need to ask God to give it to us, and then read on and see what will happen. Not only will God give us knowledge, but we will understand the fear of God and find knowledge of God.

Pro 2:3  Yes, if you cry out for discernment, And lift up your voice for understanding,

Pro 2:4  If you seek her as silver, And search for her as for hidden treasures;

Pro 2:5  Then you will understand the fear of the LORD, And find the knowledge of God.

Pro 2:6  For the LORD gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding;

We should not be content to stay still in our spiritual lives, we need to be continually growing in grace and knowledge, character, and the fruits of God’s Spirit. Today many Christians are stale, and have not learnt or heard any new knowledge for years. Should we be happy to be in this blissfully ignorant state?

God does not think so and advises us the exact opposite. We need to be diligently studying so that we can grow in knowledge, but God gives us the key, we have to fear Him and then we will begin to learn about Him, also we have to desire to learn, and to seek Him earnestly.

1Co 1:5  that you were enriched in everything by Him in all utterance and all knowledge,

The above scriptures show clearly that we should love knowledge, seek it and grow in it.

It would appear that many Christians deny this today, they seem to be scared of it, and want to stay in their comfort zone, unwilling to learn and rejecting the mere thought of new knowledge WHY……Is it because they don’t believe the Bible and therefore cannot grow in knowledge?

Now for the all-important knowledge of God. Many Christians today simply do not know anything about God the Father. They don’t include Him in anything, for them He is up in heaven blissfully uninvolved with humanity and removed from all activity here on earth……nothing could be further from the truth.

Hos 6:6  For I desire mercy and not sacrifice, And the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.

Col 1:10  that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;

2Pe 1:2  Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord,

2Pe 3:18  but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.

Eph 1:17  that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him,

Col 1:10  that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;

All the above scriptures show clearly that we should grow in knowledge of God, so we see that God wants us to learn more and more about HIM.

NOW EVEN IF YOU CANNOT SEE THAT IN THE ABOVE SCRIPTURES READ THIS FOLLOWING SCRIPTURE OVER AND OVER UNTIL YOU CAN UNDERSTAND IT.

Joh 17:3  And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.

God says that it is eternal life to know Him and Jesus.

Do we know who God is?

Is it important to know who God is?

If we want eternal life we have to know who God is………………

How does God feel about this lack of knowledge about Him?

Eventually Israel will know the one true God, but at the moment they do not, and neither do the greater majority of church members.

Jer 24:7  Then I will give them a heart to know Me, that I am the LORD; and they shall be My people, and I will be their God, for they shall return to Me with their whole heart.

Jer 2:32  Can a virgin forget her ornaments, Or a bride her attire? Yet My people have forgotten Me days without number.

Hos 4:1  Hear the word of the LORD, You children of Israel, For the LORD brings a charge against the inhabitants of the land: “There is no truth or mercy Or knowledge of God in the land.

Eze 6:9  Then those of you who escape will remember Me among the nations where they are carried captive, because I was crushed by their adulterous heart which has departed from Me, and by their eyes which play the harlot after their idols; they will loathe themselves for the evils which they committed in all their abominations.

There are two Gods in the Godhead. God the Father and Jesus Christ His Son. God the Father is the one true God who has existed forever.

1Jn 5:20  And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an an uderstanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.

Jer 10:10  But the LORD is the true God; He is the living God and the everlasting King. At His wrath the earth will tremble, And the nations will not be able to endure His indignation.

1Th 1:9  For they themselves declare concerning us what manner of entry we had to you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God,

1Th 1:10  and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, even Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come.

Jesus Christ is God, but He has not existed forever. He is the born Son of God from the beginning. Jesus was born at a point in time called the beginning. Jesus was the Son of God before He was born of Mary. There is only one God who has existed for eternity and that is the Father. That is why He is called the One True God.

Mar 12:32  So the scribe said to Him, “Well said, Teacher. You have spoken the truth, for there is one God, and there is no other but He.

1Co 8:6  yet for us there is one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we for Him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and through whom we live.

Jas 2:19  You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble!

Isa 57:15  For thus says the High and Lofty One Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in the high and holy place, With him who has a contrite and humble spirit, To revive the spirit of the humble, And to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

Jer 10:10  But the LORD is the true God; He is the living God and the everlasting King. At His wrath the earth will tremble, And the nations will not be able to endure His indignation.

Isa 43:10  “You are My witnesses,” says the LORD, “And My servant whom I have chosen, That you may know and believe Me, And understand that I am He. Before Me there was no God formed, Nor shall there be after Me.

Isa 43:11  I, even I, am the LORD, And besides Me there is no savior.

Let’s look at the scriptures regarding the fact that Jesus has not existed forever.

At a point in time called the beginning the heavens and the earth were made.

Gen 1:1  In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

At a point in time called the beginning Jesus was born.

Joh 1:1  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Joh 1:2  He was in the beginning with God.

Jesus was called the Son in the Old Testament.

Pro 30:4  Who has ascended into heaven, or descended? Who has gathered the wind in His fists? Who has bound the waters in a garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is His name, and what is His Son’s name, If you know?

The scriptures are very clear there is one God. In places of the Bible He is called the True God. God the Father has existed forever. He is the eternal, He is self-existent.

Jer 10:10  But the LORD is the true God; He is the living God and the everlasting King. At His wrath the earth will tremble, And the nations will not be able to endure His indignation.

Gen 21:33  Then Abraham planted a tamarisk tree in Beersheba, and there called on the name of the LORD, the Everlasting God.

Isa 40:28  Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the LORD, The Creator of the ends of the earth, Neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable.

Jesus Christ is the Son of God, He is second in charge to the Father, He is the born Son of God from the beginning. He was born to the Father at a point of time called the beginning. He was a Son of God long before He was born to Mary.

Joh 14:28  You have heard Me say to you, ‘I am going away and coming back to you.’ If you loved Me, you would rejoice because I said, ‘I am going to the Father,’ for My Father is greater than I.

Dan 3:25  “Look!” he answered, “I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire; and they are not hurt, and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.”

Pro 30:4  Who has ascended into heaven, or descended? Who has gathered the wind in His fists? Who has bound the waters in a garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is His name, and what is His Son’s name, If you know?

There is only one God who has existed forever and that is the Father.
