As we run our spiritual race, we will come under attack from Satan and his cohorts, we need all the protection we can get to win the race. The armour of God is a fantastic help in this marathon event.

Eph 6:13  Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

Eph 6:14  Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness,

Eph 6:15  and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

Eph 6:16  above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.

Eph 6:17  And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;

Eph 6:18  praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints

Loins girded about with truth

You wear it as a garment, you practice the truth so much in your life, that it becomes almost as natural to you as clothes. This could also apply to learning and accepting the truth of the Bible.

2Ti 2:15  Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Zec 8:16  These are the things you shall do: Speak each man the truth to his neighbor; Give judgment in your gates for truth, justice, and peace;

Psa 145:18  The LORD is near to all who call upon Him, To all who call upon Him in truth.

Having on the breastplate of righteousness

A breastplate is worn close to the heart, and body, to protect the body. In this spiritual example, it would be to protect our hearts, be righteous in our heart.

Eph 6:16  above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.

Isa 59:17  For He put on righteousness as a breastplate, And a helmet of salvation on His head; He put on the garments of vengeance for clothing, And was clad with zeal as a cloak.

Gen 15:6  And he believed in the LORD, and He accounted it to him for righteousness.

2Sa 22:21  The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness; According to the cleanness of my hands He has recompensed me.

Psa 15:2  He who walks uprightly, And works righteousness, And speaks the truth in his heart;

Zep 2:3  Seek the LORD, all you meek of the earth, Who have upheld His justice. Seek righteousness, seek humility. It may be that you will be hidden In the day of the LORD s anger.

And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace.

This verse means to lead a peaceful life. God wants us to be peaceful people, this sometimes is not easy, but if we follow God s ways, we will find the way to peace. Then we are able to be an example to others to follow, so we can spread the good news of peace by our example.

Psa 34:14  Depart from evil and do good; Seek peace and pursue it.

Psa 119:165  Great peace have those who love Your law, And nothing causes them to stumble.

Rom 12:18  If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men.

Pro 3:17  Her ways are ways of pleasantness, And all her paths are peace.

Above all take the shield of faith

This is the trump card, Faith, for with this we can quench the fiery darts of the wicked. Satan is our enemy we need all the protection we can get against him and his henchmen. We need to be able to ward off those attacks from him, from every direction, if we have faith, we can accomplish this.

Rom 4:20  He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God,

Rom 10:17  So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Heb 11:6  But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

1Jn 5:4  For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world our faith.

And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.

Helmet of salvation, keep salvation in your mind, think about it ponder it over and over in our minds, one day we will have eternal life. This is a fantastic piece of armour, don t forget our goal, the kingdom and eternal life. The sword of the Spirit, this is what gives us our power, the Spirit of God, what a fantastic weapon to have in our arsenal. The word of God, we must be very familiar with the word of God, the Bible, let s study and be faithfully being about our Father s business.

Psa 118:14  The LORD is my strength and song, And He has become my salvation.

Luk 1:77  To give knowledge of salvation to His people By the remission of their sins,

Now let s look at the sword of the Spirit.

When we are led by the Spirit of God, we learn, know and understand the word of God.

Heb 4:12  For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

1Jn 2:14  I have written to you, fathers, Because you have known Him who is from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, Because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, And you have overcome the wicked one.

Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit

Prayer is a very important tool in our spiritual lives, we ask God for things and He gives them to us, we come closer to God through prayer, we can pray for others. We must do this daily to really become close to God, this is a good way to get to know Him.

Jas 5:16  Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

Col 1:9  For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;

Rom 8:26  Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

Rom 13:12  The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light.

Rom 13:13  Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy.

Rom 13:14  But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.

2Co 6:3  We give no offense in anything, that our ministry may not be blamed.

2Co 6:4  But in all things we commend ourselves as ministers of God: in much patience, in tribulations, in needs, in distresses,

2Co 6:5  in stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labors, in sleeplessness, in fastings;

2Co 6:6  by purity, by knowledge, by longsuffering, by kindness, by the Holy Spirit, by sincere love,

2Co 6:7  by the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armor of righteousness on the right hand and on the left,

2Co 6:8  by honor and dishonor, by evil report and good report; as deceivers, and yet true;

2Co 6:9  as unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and behold we live; as chastened, and yet not killed;

2Co 6:10  as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.

We have to fight the good fight, we need all the help we can get to do this, the armour of God is meant to defend us in the spiritual battle which we face on a daily basis.

Eph 6:10  Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.

Eph 6:11  Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

Eph 6:12  For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
